ALTHOM GmbH was founded in Hamburg in October 2010 by Alkiviadis Thomas, a mechanical engineer with an aerospace background, and has been led by him ever since. The quality management system was certified to ISO 9001 and EN 9100 in the founding year, which is unusually early for a young company and shaped everything that followed.

01 · Evolution

From engineering office to technical organisation.

  • 2010

    Hamburg

    ALTHOM GmbH founded in October. First certification of the quality management system to ISO 9001 and EN 9100 in the same year. Stepwise expansion into eastern Germany follows.

  • 2012

    Engineering in Patras

    The engineering discipline is built up in Patras under Dr. Stefanos Belesis, with a focus on the analysis of aircraft structures. The capability came first; the company followed it.

  • 2013

    ALTHOM Engineering E.P.E.

    Founded in Patras in January, in the middle of the Greek economic crisis, after visits to universities across the country. A presence in Poland is established later.

  • 2019

    “Several Sites” certification

    Both locations brought under one EN 9100 certificate with the certification structure “Several Sites”, each with a documented scope of its own.

  • 2025

    Recertification

    Recertification to EN 9100:2018 and DIN EN ISO 9001:2015, valid until 12 May 2028. EcoVadis rating Bronze in April.

  • 2026

    Own software

    ALTHOM Publisher, the first own software product, released on 25 February. Entry in the Greek register for defence sector companies.

The line through it. Technical documentation grew from a supporting activity into the second core business, and automating that work produced the company's own software. An engineering office became an integrated engineering, technical data and technology organisation.

02 · Structure

Three companies, no parent.

ALTHOM consists of three legally independent companies with clearly separated tasks. They are affiliated companies: there is no parent, no subsidiary and no shareholding of one in another. The connection runs through the shareholders, the shared brand and, for ALTHOM GmbH and ALTHOM Engineering E.P.E., the jointly certified management system.

On the word "group". Collective terms such as ALTHOM Group describe the shared brand and organisational frame. They say nothing about shareholdings and do not establish a group relationship in the legal sense.

03 · Leadership

Four people, together for over a decade.

Engineering, quality and legal responsibility sit with four people who joined within the company's first two years. That continuity is why a process written in 2011 still means something today.

    Alkiviadis Thomas

    Mechanical engineer. After studying in Hamburg he worked on vehicle lifting systems, then with growing responsibility in aviation, including work with Airbus in Hamburg, and later in building technical departments, in business and site development, and in offshore production management. Founded ALTHOM in October 2010. First chairman of Hanse-Aerospace e.V. from February 2016 to April 2019.

  2. Dr.-Ing. · COO

    Dr. Stefanos Belesis

    Responsible for the operational engineering business and the person who built the engineering discipline in Patras. Previously technical lead in EU-funded research projects on the analysis of aircraft structures. Studied mechanical and aeronautical engineering at the University of Patras, with a doctorate on the nonlinear analysis of large aerospace structures.

  3. Dipl.-Kfm. · Head of Quality & Sustainability Management

    Stavros Limitsios

    Responsible for the quality management system and for implementing the business and production processes, working with Lean Management and Six Sigma. Owns the normative requirements of EN 9100 and ISO 9001 including internal and external audits. Also the company's data protection officer. Business degree from Leuphana University Lüneburg.

  4. Ass. jur. · Legal Counsel

    Wassilis Thomas

    Responsible for the company's legal affairs. Joined as a student in 2011 and has been Legal Counsel since January 2024. Previously with mid-sized firms in civil, commercial and contract law. Read law in Hamburg and at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with legal clerkship at the Schleswig Higher Regional Court.

04 · The multi-site model

Complementary locations, not a hierarchy.

When the Greek site was set up the split was simple: steering in Hamburg, execution in Patras. That description has not been accurate for years. Patras runs its own projects, performs its own quality assurance and carries technical responsibility through to delivery. The “Several Sites” certificate documents a scope of its own for Patras: engineering and development services, technical data and documentation.

What "central function" means. It is a term from the “Several Sites” certification structure and marks where the central quality management functions sit. It says nothing about shareholdings or a group relationship.

    Two labour markets

    Access to German and Greek engineering graduates. Patras is a university city with strong mechanical and aeronautical faculties, and the reason the site exists.

    Scalable cut

    Work packages combine onsite, nearshore and remote, and can be moved between them as a project develops. Where customer proximity or security requirements demand it, staff work at the customer's site and under the customer's security regime.
